Once, Master Dongshan got lost while walking and arrived at Master Yinshan's residence. The two of them had the following conversation:

Zen Master Yin Shan asked, "There is no road in this mountain. Where did you come from

Master Dongshan replied, "If I can come here, it means there is a way. Where did you enter this mountain from

Master Yinshan replied, "I am not from Yunshui

Master Dongshan asked, "Are you here first, or is this mountain here first

Zen Master Yin Shan replied, "I don't know

Master Dongshan asked, "Why don't you know

Master Yinshan replied, "Because Spring and Autumn will not come

Master Dongshan asked again, "What is the host among guests

Zen Master Yinshan did not answer but instead asked, "How much is the difference between the guest and the host

Master Dongshan replied, "Just like the waves on the Yangtze River

Zen Master Yin Shan asked, "What are the rules for guests and hosts to meet

Master Dongshan replied, "It's like a gentle breeze blowing on the bright moon
So, Zen Master Yin Shan wrote a verse:

Qingshan Baiyun Father, Baiyun Qingshan Er.

The white clouds rest all day long, but the green mountains are unknown.

To understand this meaning, we must not distance ourselves from each other
Master Dongshan immediately composed a verse:

The Tao does not merge with people, and people do not merge with the Tao.

To understand this preference, one should be old and never old

Regarding this, Master Longya wrote a verse saying:

Heart emptiness is not as peaceful as Dao emptiness, Dao and heart emptiness are just like each other.

Shen Xuan is not a Taoist Kongshi, so it's not easy to see at first glance
And Master Cao Shan wrote a verse saying:

The fields are not ripe this year, but there will be a harvest season next year.

To love his young father, one must have a white haired child
